From Mock Trials to Real Wins: Stefanie Capp’s Path to Success

For some kids, the ultimate thrill comes from swinging high on the playground or riding their first roller coaster. For Stefanie Capps, it was the idea of being in a courtroom that set her imagination running wild. Despite moving frequently as a self-described “Navy baby,” Stefanie’s passion for law never wavered. In high school, she captained the debate team and participated in mock trials – experiences that solidified her future. Those mock trials soon turned into real ones as she pursued her legal studies with focus and determination. After earning her law degree from the University of Florida and passing the bar 2008, she steadily built a career that has now reached one of her proudest milestones – becoming a Shareholder in our Fort Myers office.

But Stefanie’s path wasn’t a straight line. Graduating during the height of a global recession, she faced one of her toughest challenges – a tough job market and uncertain prospects. Still, her resilience and determination carried her through. She refused to let circumstances define her, eventually securing a position and building a reputation for excellence rooted in her greatest strength – communication. Clients often remark on her clear, empathetic approach, which helps ease the stress clients feel when navigating legal challenges.

Her youthful appearance has also played an unexpected role in her career. Now 42, Stefanie jokes that she’s “going on 30,” often finding that opposing counsel underestimates her experience. However, she’s never let that phase her. Instead, she uses meticulous preparation and sharp legal strategy to consistently outmaneuver opponents – leveling the playing field for clients facing lawsuits or fraudulent claims. Stefanie firmly believes the power of the courtroom to create fairness. “Everyone deserves a fair shot in the courtroom,” she says – a belief that fuels her dedication every day.

While she tries not to take herself too seriously, Stefanie is laser-focused on professional growth. She is an active member of the American Board of Trial Attorneys (ABOTA), an organization dedicated to upholding the right to a jury trial. Currently serving as the President of the local chapter, she is passionate about strengthening the legal community. “The legal profession is small, and your reputation is your most valuable asset,” she notes.

One lesson she holds close is the importance of self-care. “Your body is your tool as a lawyer – take care of your physical and mental health so you can stay in this profession for the long term.”
