From Ballet to the Bar: The Legal Journey of Nicole Wulwick

Long before she stepped into a courtroom, Nicole Wulwick spent more than a decade at the ballet barre. From age five through seventeen, she trained intensively in ballet, attending pre-professional summer programs and performing with her high school dance team. Ballet instilled in her discipline, perseverance, and poise under pressure—qualities that continue to shape her career in law. Originally from Plano, Texas, Nicole’s path may have started with pirouettes, but her passion for reading, writing, and watching Law & Order soon pointed her in a new direction. At the University of Michigan, she pursued criminology, women’s legal studies, and writing while earning a double major in Sociology and French/Francophone Studies—strategic choices that made her a standout law school applicant.

After graduating a semester early, she interned at the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office and tutored French students, blending her academic strengths with her growing passion for advocacy. Seeking warmer weather, Nicole headed to the University of Miami School of Law, where she fully immersed herself in exploring the profession. Her summers and semesters included interning for Congressman Jerry Nadler in New York, working with former Federal Magistrate Judge John O’Sullivan, serving as a Certified Legal Intern at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, and clerking at a maritime law firm—where she was ultimately hired after graduation. Graduating in 2010, during one of the toughest legal job markets, Nicole leaned on the discipline ballet had taught her: persistence, resilience, and focus. These qualities helped her secure opportunities and paved the way for her career in private practice.

Today, Nicole thrives in the courtroom, where she finds deep reward in presenting and arguing challenging legal issues. But just as important is her role as a leader. She takes pride in mentoring her team, measuring her own success by theirs: “It really makes me feel successful when my teammates achieve great results in court and settlements, knowing that I have helped guide them along the way.”Clients also experience her dedication firsthand. Known for her timely responses, proactive approach, and pride in her work product, Nicole goes above and beyond—even stepping in to advise on legal matters outside the immediate scope of her cases.

Nicole’s career hasn’t been without obstacles. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, she has faced some stereotyping and condescension—including being mistaken for a court reporter. Yet, she has turned these moments into fuel, drawing strength from the supportive community of women attorneys and fellow attorney-moms at KD. Beyond her practice, Nicole has made her mark as a mentor and leader in the profession. She helped pioneer KD’s summer law clerk program, which she has led for eight years, mentors through the Florida Bar, and serves in two committee roles with the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL). She also frequently presents on first-party property claims, further establishing herself as a thought leader in her field. Her proudest professional accomplishment? Growing with KD from an associate in 2012 to now leading her own division as a shareholder. While her career is central, Nicole calls her family her greatest achievement. A self-proclaimed “mom powerhouse,” she treasures time with her husband and two children. She recharges through Pilates, spinning, cooking, and travel—and continues to support the arts by attending dance performances, honoring the foundation that first shaped her path.
