William Backer focuses his practice on personal injury and wrongful death in auto negligence, premises and medical malpractice liability matters. With over 15 years of experience as a plaintiff’s attorney, William brings a well-rounded perspective to his clients, emphasizing results through his strategic legal skills and problem-solving abilities.
Raised in St. Petersburg since age nine, William graduated from the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Program at St. Pete High School. He went on to earn dual B.A. degrees history and political science from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky, later returning to the Tampa Bay area to attend Stetson College of Law. At Stetson, William was an editor for the Stetson Law Review, publishing a case note titled “Hill v. Colorado: The Court Escapes a Catch-22 by Making Everyone Lose” in the Winter 2001 volume. He graduated in May 2002, ranking 4th in his class.
William is a member of the Florida Bar, the St. Petersburg Bar Association, the Barney Masterson Inn of Court, and the Middle District of Florida.
Education
Outside of work, William enjoys going to Tampa Bay Rays games with his wife and volunteering in his community. His volunteer positions have included Habitat for Humanity, Finance Park, and as a Guardian ad Litem.
