Jorge A. Peņa is a shareholder in the Workers' Compensation and Longshore defense practice group in the firm. Mr. Peņa's responsibilities include all aspects of litigation from the initial stages of a claim, where communication with the employer and carrier is vital, to the claim's ultimate conclusion, be it settlement or trial. Mr. Peņa's practice also encompasses handling litigation relating to the Federal Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act.
Mr. Peņa is AV rated by Martindale- Hubbell and has 14 years experience in handling Workers' Compensation and Longshore Workers' Compensation Claims. As a result, he has developed expertise in all areas of workers' compensation defense including toxic exposure claims, occupational disease claims and numerous high value catastrophic claims, where expertise in complex medical issues is necessary. Mr. Peņa utilizes this expertise in advising employers and carriers on how to best handle and posture claims for minimal exposure during the defense process and recently spoke at the Annual Florida Workers' Compensation Educational Conference on medical and managed care issues.
Mr. Peņa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from West Virginia University in 1985 and a Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1988. Mr. Peņa is a member of the Florida Bar Workers' Compensation Section and is admitted to practice in the United State District Court, Southern District.
